Write, or Left?

Every day I try to put my best foot forward. And, for me, that involves writing, which sometimes involves taking notes, and sometimes taking a walk.

Believe it or not, not everything I type is drop dead gorgeous. Sometimes it’s just dead. And I don’t feel bad about it. You have to try things, and think about things before you can explain them simply, completely and in your voice. I suppose it’s a little like working with clay.

You have to do it every day.

Your mind needs to process. You need to sit down, think, push it forward. It’s an iterative process. It’s important to keep a list of ideas, phrases, paragraphs.

Calliope, the muse of writing, may be out to lunch but may drop by in the afternoon. Know your best times, when your body feels like it. You’ll know because it feels easier to jump in the water – the process is warmer and flows more easily.

In the end, you craft something that is uniquely you, that sings your song.

How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice. Practice and you will improve, not like Lefty:
