9 Things I Do When My Creative Juices Need A Jumpstart

ree

Even the most creative minds get stuck in the sludge of “meh.” And when the ideas dry up, when the cursor blinks like it’s mocking me, when every sentence sounds like an email from 1999, I know it’s time to shake things up.

Whether you’re a writer, designer, entrepreneur, or anyone who needs a little creative spark, here are 9 things I swear by to get the creative juices flowing.

Go for the Messy Walk

Not a power walk. I’m talking about the wandering, no-route, sidewalk-staring, music-blaring kind of walk. I let my brain bounce around like a pinball. No agenda. Just motion. Works every time.

Switch Mediums

If I’m stuck writing, I’ll doodle. If I’m stuck designing, I’ll write. Creativity isn’t a one-lane highway, it’s a back road full of weird turns. Switch gears and see what happens. Paint. Cook. Rearrange your books by color. It’s not procrastination, it’s research.

Talk to Someone Unexpected

Not your usual crew and not your biz bestie. Someone totally outside your field. They see the world differently and it might be the exact lens you need.

Set a 10-Minute Timer and Just GO

This one’s my lifeline. No overthinking. No editing. I just open a doc and begin. Write garbage if I must. Okay, not literally. But look at the work of people you admire and ask why it works. What do you love about it? How could you twist it to make it your own? Creativity often starts with curiosity.

Change Your Scenery

I’ve written killer content at dive bars, museum cafés, and cramped window seats on airplanes. Sometimes all it takes is a new view even if it’s just moving from your desk to the floor.

Consume Better Content

If I’m doom-scrolling nonsense, my brain turns to mush. But if I read a great book, watch a clever show, or listen to a podcast that actually challenges me I get fired up to create.

Daydream On Purpose

I build in time to space out. I stare out the window. I sip coffee and let my brain play. Some of my best ideas arrive when I’m doing absolutely nothing productive. I call it my “intentional zone-out” and it works.

Create Junk (on Purpose)

Not everything you write has to be good. Some of it can be utter crap. And that’s okay. The key is to keep writing. I’ve written things I thought were junk that turned into gold with a tweak. But you can’t edit what you haven’t created.

Creativity Isn’t Magic, It’s Movement

You don’t need to wait for the muse. You don’t need to sit and suffer. You do need to move, shift, shake, and stir things up a bit. Trust me, your next big idea is already circling. You just need to give it an opening.

And if you’re feeling creatively tapped on your content, I’ve got you.

I’ll write 2 complimentary posts for you, no strings, just fresh eyes and a little content fairy dust.

Because sometimes all it takes is a new voice to get yours flowing again.
