AI Isn’t Taking My Writing Business. Here’s Why.

AI made this.
AI made this.

Let’s just get this out of the way: I’m not afraid of AI.

I’m not wringing my hands. I’m not panicking over my keyboard. And I’m definitely not shutting down my writing business to make room for a chatbot.

AI isn’t going to take my job and if you’re a real-deal, human-centered, strategy-savvy, voice-capturing copywriter, it’s not going to take yours either.

Don’t believe me? Here are 10 solid reasons why my business is safe, thank you very much.

1. Voice Isn’t Just a Vibe. It’s a Skill.

AI can imitate tone. Sometimes, it can do it well. But capturing the nuance of a human’s brand voice, the rhythm, the subtext, the bite or warmth or wit behind the words? That takes a real person with a real ear. I don’t just write in your voice. I become your voice. ChatGPT? It’s still working on its people skills.

2. Strategy Trumps Syntax.

AI can string together words. I build strategies. My writing isn’t about filling space. It’s about moving people closer to your brand, your offer, your value. I understand why the message matters, how it fits into your broader goals, and what will make it stick. Syntax is cheap. Strategy sells. (BTW, I was a sales trainer and strategist for 3 decades so I am an expert at this.)

3. Clients Don’t Just Want Words, They Want Me.

My clients don’t hire me just for a page of copy. They hire me for insight, feedback, experience, and for a sounding board who gets it. They want someone who can say, “This isn’t working, let’s try it another way.” AI doesn’t push back. I do, because that’s how we get great work.

4. Rewriting AI Output Is a Job And I Get Paid for It.

Spoiler alert: Most people using AI to “write their content” end up coming to someone like me to fix it. I’ve turned AI gibberish into gold more times than I can count. Let ‘em try the bot first. I’ll be here with my red pen and magic touch when it goes sideways.

5. Empathy Isn’t in the Algorithm.

AI can’t feel. It can’t intuit. It can’t read the room, pick up on emotional undercurrents, or know when to pull back and when to push forward. But I can. Human connection is in every word I write, because I understand what it means to talk to humans.

6. My Network Runs on Human Trust.

Referrals. Collaborations. Longtime clients who come back year after year. You don’t get that from AI. My business was built on relationships and relationships aren’t replaceable. They’re earned, nurtured, and rooted in trust. That’s not something a machine can replicate. (Think I'm fibbing? Just ask my Adrian's Network community.)

7. Creativity Can’t Be Crowdsourced from the Internet.

AI pulls from what already exists. I pull from what hasn’t been said yet. I connect the dots others miss. I use life, travel, culture, humor, heartbreak, and joy to write in a way that resonates. AI can remix. I can originate.

8. Business Owners Are Busy and Smart.

Smart business owners know they’re not writers. They may test out AI and that’s fine. But when they need content that converts, connects, and actually sounds like them, they come to me. Because outsourcing to a pro isn’t a luxury. It’s a smart move.

9. There’s a Whole Lot of Mediocre Out There.

AI has flooded the internet with bland, boring, blah. And that makes great writing stand out even more. In a sea of same-sounding AI output, fresh, human, bold copy is a beacon. Mediocrity doesn’t scare me, it makes me more valuable.

10. I’m Not a Dinosaur, I’m a Professional with Perspective.

This isn’t a “get off my lawn” rant. I’m not anti-tech. I use tools (including AI) to streamline, brainstorm, and support my work. But I don’t confuse a tool with a talent.

Here’s the Bottom Line:

AI is here. I’m not ignoring it. But I’m also not handing it the keys to my business.

I’ve spent decades building my expertise, my relationships, and my reputation. My clients value thinking, feeling, originality, and clarity. They’re not looking for a robot. They’re looking for someone who gets what they’re trying to say, and can say it even better than they can.

That someone is me.

And no, AI isn’t going to change that.

Need help crafting content that cuts through the noise, connects with your audience, and stays unmistakably you? Let’s talk.
