We All Just Want to be Seen

ree

Let’s be real for a second.

When we post on social media, when we hit “publish” on a blog, when we send a newsletter out into the great digital beyond, we’re not just checking a box. We’re not doing it for fun (okay, sometimes). We’re doing it because we want to be seen.

We want someone, heck, anyone, to read our words and feel something. Maybe they nod in agreement. Maybe they laugh out loud. Maybe they sit back and think, “Wow, I needed to hear that today.”

That, right there, is the power of engagement. It’s not just about chasing likes and hearts. A thumbs up is nice, sure, but it’s the comments, the conversations, the connection that tell us our message actually landed.

Otherwise, we’re just whistling in the wind.

I’ve written a lot of content in my life. Sales decks, blog posts, email campaigns, LinkedIn updates, caption copy for Instagram, content designed to make people pause and pay attention. And whether it’s for myself or my clients, there’s always a shared goal underneath it all: we want to be heard. We want to know our stories, our perspectives, our offerings matter to someone.

Let’s not pretend we’re above it. We’re human and we want recognition. Not empty praise or ego-stroking fluff, but acknowledgment that we made someone think, smile, reconsider, remember, or act.

You know what lights me up? When someone sends a private message after a post goes live. Or better yet, when they leave a heartfelt comment that says, “I really needed this today.” Even better than that? The rare, golden unicorn, a handwritten note in the mail.

Yes, those still exist. And yes, they feel like magic.

Because what that note, or DM, or comment is really saying is, “You made a difference.”

And that’s the thing so many of us are after, especially those of us who write for a living, speak from the stage, or work to create change in our corner of the world. We’re not just trying to fill up space online. We’re trying to connect, trying to matter. We want to know that the time we spend crafting our content isn’t being swallowed up by the void.

If you’ve ever wondered why your own posts sometimes feel like they’re floating in silence, you’re not alone. I feel that too. That’s why I keep showing up, writing with heart, and pushing my clients to do the same. Because when the connection does happen, it’s worth every moment spent staring at the blinking cursor.

So here’s my little soapbox moment: the next time you read something that moves you, say something. Don’t just scroll past. Don’t just click the like button and bounce. Leave a comment. Send a message and tell the writer that their words meant something.

You’ll make their day. And you’ll remind them (and yourself) that being seen isn’t just about vanity, it’s about validity. It’s about reminding each other that our stories, our thoughts, our voices matter.

And if you're struggling to get the engagement you’re hoping for, I’m here. At www.wordsworkcopywriting.com, I help bring voices to life in a way that’s clear, true, and impossible to ignore. Because content should connect and when it does, it changes everything.

Want help writing content that gets noticed and gets responses? Let’s talk. I’d love to help you be seen.
